I’m
Ashleigh Hunt. I’m from Delaware, Ohio. I graduated from Delaware Hayes High
School. A fun fact about me is that I went to Haiti a few years ago. It was for
a mission trip with my church, and I had a lot of fun. We built a house that is
hurricane and earthquake resistant. We also visited many locals and toured the
city we stayed in. I hope to go back in a few years and visit again.
For my
poem, I wrote to a friend I’ve known my whole life. Most of the time I spent on
the poem, I was trying to come find something to write about her. One of the
biggest challenges for me was trying to remember specific moments of our
friendship. Because we’ve known each other since birth, there were a lot of
memories to go through. I didn’t really know how the poem was going to turn
out, but I think she would like it. Because I think she would like it, I think
it has turned out pretty well.
“Would you
still be my friend
If” I wrote
you a poem.
“Would you
still be my friend
If” I moved
farther away.
Take me back to where it began,
Your house in 1993.
We don’t remember how it started,
But the journey is where it’s at.
We’ve been through almost everything,
Yet I’ve known you for almost 19 years
And your strength never ceases to amaze me.
You never let anyone take your individuality.
You never let me down.
You make me face my fears,
Like parasailing over the Atlantic.
You’re the biggest light of my life,
My Eiffel Tower in the city of Paris.
If I don’t remember to tell you
The next time we meet,
I want you to know you’re the best.
You’re the best sister I’ve ever had,
There’s no blood relation needed for it either.
You’re my best friend,
And I love you for that.
Thats awesome that you went to Haiti and the things you did.
