According to Wikipedia Floyd Mann was born August 20, 1920, in Davidson, Tallapoosa County, Alabama. He was schooled in Davidson and Alexander City, Alabama. He joined the United States Army Air Corps, serving as a tail gunner on a B-17, where he flew 27 combat missions including the first daylight raid on Berlin. He received numerous awards including the Distinguished Flying Cross. Mann was the Director of Public Safety for the state of Alabama in 1961, when the nonviolent Freedom Riders came into the state seeking an end to segregations. The governor at the time asked Mann to protect the riders and he agreed as long as he gets the proper resources, but in many occasions he didn’t because he sympathizers with the KKK segregation.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Floyd_Mann
