Civil Rights Exploration

It takes a group of people to agree on a matter of going against an existing social issue to find a better solution for that specific issue, this could be in my opinion a process of  taking a direct action on a problem. What grabbed most of my attention after I watched the non-violence clip, is how the Nashville students came up with the idea of putting there tactics of the non-violence movements, which became a turning point in the history. This waken up a lot of the black community at that time, and that is what made them stood behind those students. The people who were behind these movements and protests weren't only black folks, in fact there were also white people among them. The freedom rider Jim Zwerg was one of those freedom riders whom went down south seeking justice. He faced the beating and hitting like many of his friends had, nevertheless that didn't stopped him from riding for freedom. A quote of his was " A segregation must be stopped, It must be broken down. I am a freedom rider. We will continue the freedom rides. I am not sure how we will be able to, but we will go to New Orleans no matter what happens. We were dedicated to this. We will take hitting. We will taking beating. We are willing to except that...in the south."
The bottom line of this movement was that all people are equal in the end of the day, and no one have more rights than others. This is what really translates the constitution of this great country. This clip also teaches us about a history made by a younger generation at that time, that couldn't been stopped by any one."They knew this was not to be stopped, to play with, or to be joked with"

  1. I like your quote. I think it really defines these non-violent acts, and the attitudes of all the people involved.
Very inspirational when put into context...

  2. I really liked the quote you used as well! It showed that these people knew what would come from their actions, but they didn't care. They knew what they needed to do to get their freedom!

  3. the quote you used reminded me of the one part of the movie where the guy talked about the guards calling the really muscular black inmate to beat one of the freedom riders away from his mattress and how "it hurt him more than it hurt me." I know the inmate was following orders from the guards, but when you think about the type of person it takes to beat up a person that wont fight back, you really know how the nonviolent protest makes a different. it puts the peaceful protestors on a step above the people who fight them because it shows how dedicated you are to the cause you are protesting for, and it also makes you look better than the person who is heartlessly fighting you. It's a win win.

  4. equality is definitely the basis of this movement and to us today equality seems like the only way but back then segregation was the only way but this group could see past that almost into the future and realize that changes needed to be made to help not just them but future generations.

  5. Freedom and equality is something that every human is born with and it was so moving how these people took all that punishment to get that back.
